The 'add-apt-
From the changelog:
add "-y" to add-apt-repository (LP: #829109). This can be used to avoid the confirmation prompt. Alternatively you can redirect stdin to /dev/null for skipping of the confirmation.
I think redirecting stdin to /dev/null would be the portable option here, so that the action continues to work with pre-Oneiric images.

I agree, adding </dev/null in the right place sounds like a good fix and must be pretty easy.
