Bug Description

In the linaro ubuntu-based images, the default "linaro" user account does not have a password . This makes life difficult for some users that need to login through ssh, customize their images etc.

I suggest that we use a password for the default account (linaro/linaro).

I have rebooted after installing updates and now can't get back in (except to the guest account) as lightdm wants a password.

Update shouldn't change the lightdm behavior unless it asked to replace the /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf file during the upgrade. I agree that having a default password can help avoiding such issues.

Will this affect the serial console connection? Currently, the test automation we use assumes that images do not ask for login on the serial console.

No, it's still enabling the default root console at the serial port without any passwd request.
