Keyboard does not work in launcher the first time

Bug Description

Try this:

1. Boot Ubuntu 11.10
2. Log in
3. Press the Windows key to bring up the Unity launcher
4. Try typing. Problem: It doesn't work. There is a blinking caret in the search box, but what you type doesn't appear.
5. Press the Windows key again to close the launcher.
6. Press the WIndows key again to open the launcher again.
7. Try typing. Now it works correctly.
