Bug Description

Steps to reproduce:

1. Lock screen using CTRL+ALT+L or by selecting "Lock Screen" from the system menu
2. Move the mouse or strike a key to show the password prompt
3. Hit meta/Windows button

Expected behaviour: Nothing should happen

Actual behaviour: The Unity menu is shown the same as if the screen wasn't locked

I'm not filing this as a security vulnerability because it does not appear that you can do anything from the menu, as I believe the gnome lock-screen is preventing keyboard interaction with anything on the desktop. However, it might be a good idea to take a good look at how Unity can receive input when the screen is still locked, such as hotkeys, VNC or other remote desktop functionality, etc...

thanks for your bug report. Is that still an issue in Ubuntu 12.04? Can you please test that and let us know?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a duplicate of bug 741869, so it is being marked as such. Please look at the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you can provide, or to see if there is a workaround for the bug. Additionally, any further discussion regarding the bug should occur in the other report. Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may find.

And it sounds like you are suffering from bug 886605 also.

The bug is partially fixed. I was not able to reproduce the menu being
shown by pressing meta at the lock screen. However, there are now the
following 2 related issues:

1. When I press meta at the unlock screen, and then enter my password,
when the screen unlocks, the Unity menu is already open, so there is still
some interaction that there shouldn't be from the lock screen.
2. Occasionally after the computer screen has turned off, the Unity
sidebar is visible at the lock screen.

Neither are catastrophic, but still undesirable behaviours...

Thanks,
Jeff
