Bug Description

I have a u36sd running the latest ubuntu 12.04 beta 1 image. The unity bar displays on both monitors when I have my laptop plugged into an external display via hdmi (other methods of connection untested).

Yes, I have the same issue. Is this intentional behaviour? Is it configurable?

Reading around a bit, it looks like this is intentional behaviour - and even considered to be improved support for multi-monitor setups! It's a pity that you can't configure it.

There are two issues that I see:

1. You might not want to have the launcher displayed on every monitor.
2. With left-right monitor setups, you have to 'brute-force' the mouse across the launcher each time you move it across screens.

I worked around the brute-force problem by setting my second monitor to be above the primary monitor - I still get the launcher on both screens but it's more workable than a left-right configuration.

Another workaround for the brute-force problem suggested on the ayatana design mailing list is to reduce these settings:

/apps/compiz-1/plugins/unityshell/screen0/options/stop_velocity
/apps/compiz-1/plugins/unityshell/screen0/options/reveal_pressure

If this is intentional behavior, this is just stupid! I don't connect a second monitor to my computer, to duplicate stuff from the first one.

It is also a bit inconsistent - although the launchers appear on both monitors, the systray icons in the unity top bar only appear on one monitor (in my case, the secondary monitor).

I don't mind having the launcher on both screens for a up-down configuration, but for left-right I find it just plain crazy.

ya, the behavior is indeed intentional. However I believe it should at the very least be configurable.

Nick Adams, Rocko... do you guys have any official sources about your statement. I can't imagine this behavior being intentional. Where is the advantage of two launchers?

that's as good as I can find. I do remember seeing it somewhere else though.

There is also an ubuntu forums thread about it now. hopefully we can get some more attention.
