conversion of epubs with output profile kindle doesn't change size of images

calibre version: 6.29
operating system: MacOS Sonoma 14.1
When I convert epub books to epub or azw3 with output profile kindle, the images are not resized to the kindle output profile size. This is applies to all epub 2 and epub 3 files which I convert.
On my old system running MacOS Catalina 10.15.7 and calibre 6.11 the same files are converted just fine.

Automatic shrinking was removed. There is an option under EPUB output to
specify the maximum size of images. You can set it to profile to get
back the old behavior.
Note this only applies to EPUB output not AZW3 output. For azw3 there is
no way to shrink images based on profile size.
