It would be awesome if drapes could browse and download backgrounds from http://art.gnome.org/backgrounds .

It's planed (actually in the works) for the next series of drapes (0.6 series). At least being able to subscribe to RSS feeds (i might add full art.gnome.org if they get some kind of external API), you'll also be able to to subscribe to interface lift rss feeds.

there was a tool called gnome-art-manager, lemme find the link http://miketech.net/gnome-art/
   One can install gnome-art-manager but it has the following issues (or ideas fo ryou) :-

 1. It is no longer maintained.
 2, It downloads all the thumbnails instead of downloading only those thumbnails which are of your screen-resolution. 1024x768 u get the drift.
 3. It doesn't take into account the popularity as some wallpapers are more popular than others.

 Perhaps you could also take a look at http://live.gnome.org/GnomeArt/Ago3 as well as
       http://live.gnome.org/GnomeArt
