Bug Description

I install Elementary OS v. 0.3 Beta 1. When I try to install my multi-funcrtion printer it finds it. But it doesn't install it. So I can't print out in Elementary OS v. 0.3 Beta 1. I hope this bug will be fixed before the real release. Because I like to Linux system. The multi-function printer/Scaner is a Canon PIXMA MP250.

I have the same issue with installing a printer (epson px720wd) When i click add a new printer, it sees the networkprinter, but keeps hanging during installation. I also used 'sudo system-config-printer. When i use this command i can choose a printerdriver, then downloading printyerdriver is started. it keeps hanging during installation.
Manuel installatio via downloaded drivers is possible.

For Canon MP printers I had success using the semi-official Canon drivers by Michael Gruz following the information here:

Keep your printer turned on and it should automatically find it, else go to the settings add printer after.

I found out that this problem also occurs on ubuntu 14.04. I tried this sollution made in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/system-config-printer/+bug/1307917?comments=all

The solution what worked for me:

"However, I then removed the Epson driver, then the Epson repository and key (using Software & Updates) and refreshed the cache.
Then I tried to install the printer again, this time by executing the system-config-printer command from the terminal"

I have the same problem in Freya 0.3.1 (all updates installed). I tried to install my HP LaserJet 1200 and it wouldn't install; it would hand on "Installing" and would never successfully finish. If I closed the System Settings/Printers window and reopen it would disappear from the list entirely. I was able to successfully install by running "sudo system-config-printer" in Terminal and adding it from that dialog.

Also, this printer would successfully install in Ubuntu 14.04 no problem.

I had exactly the same problem like Todd in Freya 0.3.1. with a Brother HL-5250 DN. Also no problem with the installation in Ubuntu 14.04.

I was able to work around the problem using the Brother Driver Install Tool and following these instructions: http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadhowto.aspx?c=eu_ot&lang=en&prod=hl5250dn_all&os=128&dlid=dlf006893_000&flang=4&type3=625

Edit: Out of curiosity I tried it again using Todd's workaround with "sudo system-config-printer". It didn't hang when searching for drivers, but then I got an error message from the CUPS server that read »server-error-internal-error«. So it didn't work. I couldn't tell if this was because I had used the Brother Driver Install Tool earlier.
