Browse searches in shelving location groups always fail

Evergreen 3.0+
When performing a browse search limited to a shelving location group, the search consistently fails, showing the following error on the screen:
An error occurred browsing records. Please try again in a moment or report the issue to library staff.
This can be easily reproduced on any system with shelving location groups, by attempting any browse search in any location group.
On a concerto system that has the 'Local Interest Collection' shelving location group, the resulting url for a browse search for the term violin, limited to that location group is:

I wonder if this is related to the grouping/sorting issues with browse described in bug 1467643
