Bug Description

I noticed this bug in 2.1beta, but it also appears to exist in 2.0.

When doing a sort by author, Evergreen appears to separate the author types when doing the sort.

For example, authors from field 100 in the MARC will be sorted A-Z, followed by authors in field 700 of the marc, creating a sort list of A-Z-A-Z. Authors should be lumped in together regardless of the type.

I'm actually seeing this on our production 3.2.3 server. If I do a title search for 'anthology' and sort by Author A-Z, authors in the 100 field are sorted first and then if I page quite a bit farther, I see added authors. However, when I'm looking at it, the added authors aren't being sorted A-Z, much less being interfiled with 100 field authors.

For results #991-996 respectively I've got as the leading added author (no 100 field author present):

Levithan, David
Jayne, Dawn
De Lint, Charles
Davis, Milton J.
Carr, Robyn
Franklin, Caroline

Hi,

Thanks, Steve and Tiffany.

What you're seeing is that added entry authors are not used for sorting. Only authors in the MARC 1XX field are considered, and then records without a 1XX appear after those. There are tie-breaker sorts of pub date and then finally relevance ranking, the theory being that if you're not sorting by relevance to begin with (but, instead, title, author, or pub date, then you want relevance as a last-resort sort, and pub date is a better first tie-breaker).

This is configurable by adjusting a record attribute definition -- specifically the authorsort definition. If there's consensus on how the definition should be changed, we could address that in stock seed data.
