Bug Description

I've installed Ubuntu 11.10 recently. My firm posess HP DesignJet T770 44in plotter which works fine in all Windows distributions but cannot be installed in Ubuntu. I've tried to do so in CUPS and in HPLIP without success. None discover it. My computer is Acer S3-951 (ultrabook - doesn't have ethernet cable jack). I tried to connect it via USB, none discovers it. Does the same on other computer (Ubuntu 10.10, via ethernet cable - defined IP adress), same thing. On my computer in CUPS, i changed location to parallel:/dev/usblp0 and get some response from plotter - which says: Wrong file format, cannot be print..

When enter "hp-check -t" in terminal i found that HPLIP doesn't seem to have drivers for my firm's plotter.

Hi,

   From the log, it is found that there are many missing dependencies. You can download and install latest hplip-3.12.2 from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html.

Follow the instructions there in the link. Once installation is done, run in terminal "hp-setup -g" and give us the output.

HP Designjet T770 44in is not yet supported. Just for temporary fix, follow the instructions below.

- Go to the folder where hplip-3.12.2 has been downloaded (e.g. ~/Downloads). Run in terminal :

 $ cd ~/Downloads/hplip-3.12.2
 $ gedit data/models/models.dat &

    (Search for [hp_designjet_t770ps_24in] and copy the whole section and paste in somewhere in the file. Now in the new copied section, change [hp_designjet_t770ps_24in] to [hp_designjet_t770ps_44in] and in model1 = HP Designjet T770 44-in Postscript Printer. Save the file and close it.)

$ make
$ sudo make install

After this, reconnect the printer to the machine. Run in terminal "hp-setup" and it should detect the printer. After setup is complete, you can print.

Let us know if you have any issue in this. Please provide the output of "hp-setup -g" which was mentioned earlier.

Yesterday i've updated plotter's firmware - same error massage on display 61:01! Looked at service manual. It says:

System Error: 61:YZ
Problem Description: The file format is incorrect or not supported for the current printer configuration and the printer
cannot process the job.
Corrective action: Try the following:
1. Check whether the printer supports the file format (formats such as PS, PDF, TIFF and
JPEG are supported by PostScript printers only).
2. Switch the power off from the back of the printer and disconnect the power cord.
Reconnect the power cord and power on the printer.
3. Check the graphic language setting of the printer (refer to the User's Guide).
4. Resend the file to the printer.
5. Check that the printer has the latest firmware version. If not, update the firmware to the
latest version.

...so what i did next was to change graphic language settings. But there are only two settings for this: Automatic and HP-GL/2. So i switched to HP-GL/2. After this my plotter DO some instructions (some efort taken) but nothing comes out... Really anoying

Remove the print queue for this printer in "system-config-printer"

Run hp-setup command and pick the PPD file "hp-designjet_t770ps_24in-ps.ppd.gz" from location

/usr/share/ppd/HP/hp-designjet_t770ps_24in-ps.ppd.gz (or) hplip-3.12.2/prnt/ps/hp-designjet_t770ps_24in-ps.ppd.gz

Post us the "hp-check -t" output and let us know if you are able to print using the this PPD file.

Goutam kodu

What's going on?! Are people from HP really so unprofessional? People, my firm bought this plotter worth some 4000$, can't print and can't get support for it. So far i get little to no help, and it was in vain. Unbelivable! Here is what i finally could print (before unroling lot's of papier. I could go to copy store and done this cheaper).

When the setup is made from the system it can see and install the printer, but also doesn't print anything. Found that the PPD used at install is the wrong one (24in), changed it to the right one (44in), but still can't print. Wrong file format. I'm using Trusty Tahr.
