Search field doesn't have a clear button in Synaptic

Bug Description
In Synaptic Package Manager, the search field should have a little broom icon that clears the field. (It should only be visible when the user has entered text)
Current workflow, for me at least:
1. Enter a search term from the keyboard.
2. Manipulate one or more packages with the mouse.
3. Switch back to the keyboard to clear the search field.
