Bug Description

My mouse has two wheels and two modes of working with the horizontal wheel: an "extended mode" and "Compatibility with MS-IntelliMouse". In the latter the wheel doesn't do anything, in the former it works as the vertical scroll.

Sorry for the long delay - could you please add information about OS/platform to the bug description?

If the reporter was using Inkscape on Windows, this is probably the same upstream issue as reported later e.g. in
* Bug #1200993 “Horizontal scrolling with mouse wheel tilt doesn't work”

Yes, I use Inkscape on Windows. And my mouse, just in case, is A4Tech X6-005D.

As far as we know upstream missing feature in the Windows backend of GTK+, not specific to Inkscape:
* 748014 - W32: Tilting mousewheel left/right does not scroll horizontally
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=748014

The feature was recently added for GTK3 (3.14, 3.16 and master), but is not yet backported to GTK2. GIMP devs (GIMP on Windows is affected too) are testing the patch with GTK2, so chances are good that the commit will be cherry-picked for the 2.24 branch too.
