Bug Description

Selecting objects on the OS X platform has a huge time lag. You can even see the computer work down the screen selecting the objects. This is most noticeable when you do a box marquee selection over a few objects. This lag also applies to moving objects once an illustration starts to build up.

This will frustrate existing uses but completely turn new users off using Inkscape on mac!

Spec's
Inkscape 0.91
OS X 10.10.3
imac 27 inch
GTX 780M
Wacom Intuos5 tablet

Not reproduced with current stable Inkscape 0.91 r13725 on OS X 10.7.5, with XQuartz 2.7.7.

Could you please attach a sample test case (SVG file) which exposes this behavior, as well as attach Inkscape's preferences file (see Inkscape menu 'Edit > Preferences > System > User preferences' for the exact name and location of the file) to the bug report to allow further investigation?

Related questions:
- Does the issue persists after a reboot of the system?
- Does it affect other user accounts as well? (e.g. the Guest account)?
- Does hiding Inkscape's rulers (see Inkscape menu 'View > Show/Hide > Rulers') have any effect on the perceived performance lag?

I'm running the exact same version of Inkscape and XQuartz. So that is very strange. I'm also using a wacom intuos 5 tablet in case this matters.
I cannot locate the preference file. It is pointing to :"/Users/edit2imac/.config/inkscape/preferences.xml"

I cannot see this location under /Users/edit2imac/?

- Does it affect other user accounts as well? (e.g. the Guest account)? Yes.
- Does hiding Inkscape's rulers (see Inkscape menu 'View > Show/Hide > Rulers') have any effect on the perceived performance lag?No.

Directories with a name which starts with a dot ('.') are (by convention) hidden. You can access them for example via Finder's 'Go to Folder ...' command in Finder's menu 'Go' (simply paste the path "/Users/edit2imac/.config/inkscape" into the 'Go to Folder' dialog to open Inkscape's user config folder in Finder).

Since the performance lag also affects the Guest account, it's likely not related to the specific user Inkscape settings though.

Did you test without the tablet too, using a "regular" input device (mouse or trackpad)? You might want to reset Inkscape preferences for such a test:

Resetting Inkscape's preferences:
1) Quit all running Inkscape processes.
2) Rename [*] the file "preferences.xml" in Inkscape's user config folder (see above).
3) Relaunch Inkscape -> creates new 'preferences.xml' file with default settings.

[*] renaming instead of deleting the preferences file allows to restore the current settings later on.

Managed to find the preference file, thanks for that.I renamed it and reset but with same effect.I then deleted new preference file, unplugged wacom tablet and the situation has gotten worse. The mouse doesn't work properly at all, I can select items from the tool bar but I can't draw on the canvas. I turned off all tablet settings reset with same result. I'm forced to plugin the wacom back in as it is unusable otherwise. I also tried wireless and wired mouse with no difference.
