Bug Description

Hi there, I`d like to ask here for another feature request.

Inkscape is already amazing software. I`m just trying to suggest some feature here to make it even better! ;-)

We have a feature in Blender, in the Outliner panel, (https://www.blender.org/manual/editors/outliner.html) that makes every single object (no matter if it is text, path, vertices, edges or faces) in the Blender scene have its correspondent icon in the outliner panel. Today objects in Inkscape's canvas do not have its correspondent "icon" in the layer panel. And that, sometimes, makes things difficult to manipulate or select. :-(

This would be very very usefull for us to be able to select objects behind a lot of other objects in the same layer (for instance).
If we could just select an object in Inkscape that is behind a lot of other one just by the panel (maybe the layers panel) it would make workflow faster and cleaner for a lot of users I believe.

Hope it helps make this super cool software even better.

Cheers!

Thank you for taking the time to file this feature request.

Many variations of this kind of request have been filed before [1]. A similar feature already exists (as separate 'Objects' dialog) in current trunk (implemented based on bug #1157024) and will be available in the next major release 0.92.

Note that merging the feature of an object & group browser (or outliner) into Inkscape's Layers dialog as is would be a usability nightmare, and make quick layer management nearly impossible even in mildly complex documents.

Proposing to link as duplicate to one of the many earlier reports requesting the same (maybe not with the reference to Blender as such) - feel free to chose one from the blueprint which fits yours most closely.

[1] see for example the reports linked to this blueprint:

I believe this feature request can already be closed (searching for the close button but could not find it in here) because 0.92pre1 seems to have this feature enabled somehow ( Object > Objects...). :)
