Bug Description

$ inkscape --version
Inkscape 0.92pre1 unknown (Jul 13 2016)

Aside, that shouldn't happen. Trunk should show the installation version with the --version command. On my machine, it should show: 1:0.91.0+devel+15016+76~ubuntu16.04.1

$ cat /etc/issue
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS \n \l

$ uname -a
Linux panther 4.4.0-28-generic #47-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jun 24 10:09:13 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

$ xdpyinfo | grep 'dimensions:'
  dimensions: 2560x1600 pixels (677x423 millimeters)

Replicate

1. Install Inkscape Trunk from PPA
2. Start Inkscape

Expected Results

Regular Inkscape window.

Actual Results

See attached.

Work Around

Switch to another desktop (e.g., Ctrl+F1) then switch back (e.g., Ctrl+F2). The wonky business is cleared up.

Work Around #2

Waiting for several seconds also clears up the workspace. Looks like this could be a refresh timing issue. Perhaps there's something working in the background that displaces the priority for updating the screen?

Attached shows zooming in and out using +/- keys. It's a bit disconcerting to see.

Ignore that work around. It only worked because I was on the other desktop for a several seconds before returning to the desktop with Inkscape running.
