Bug Description
This is a feature request, not a bug report. I tried to find how to mark my report as such, but failed.
I wish there were a quick toggle to shrink the canvas to the page. What I envision is this: Click on a button or something and the canvas shrinks to the page. You are no longer able to scroll out of the page. Click on the same button, and the canvas expands to the original size and you can draw some objects outside the page.
Why do I want this? 1) Because I rarely draw objects outside the page and 2) because a canvas larger than the page is a bit annoying because you need a finer control on scrolling. To explain the latter point, I often zoom into a part of the page and draw something, but when I scroll up and down, I accidentally go off the page and get "lost" in the big canvas.

Does the 'zoom to page' shortcut help? (Numpad 5, see also https:/ /inkscape. org/en/ doc/keys091. html#d0e830 )
