trace bitmap function is erratic

hello i have windows 10 and version .91 inkscape. i was able to perform this function last night. will do some more this afternoon.thanks bernard

Bug description:
  the trace bitmap function is unstable. sometime it works sometimes it
  doesn't. i've spent many hours trying to figure out whether it is the
  type of file, or the trace bitmap function itself. basically png files
  from gimp and bitmap files from gimp. the same file may work one time
  but not the next.hope someone can help figure this out.

over at https://discuss.pixls.us/t/need-help-tracing-raster-to-vector-process/3668/ we have been noticing something that could be described in the same way as OP. Unfortunately OP is very vague.

Specifically, a given image (the tree image shown in the link) is traced -> the result is far yellower than the source image. One tester's results (using recent Inkscape BZR) are that exporting a PNG of the trace gives correct colors; for another tester (using 0.92.0 r15299) , exported PNG is equally yellowish. When tracing other images, the colors are normal.
