Bug Description

Text that is flowed inside a shape does not display
properly in Firefox.

You have to convert the framed text to text or all you
get is the rectangle using the text's color attibutes.
When the text is converted, all text lines are given
the same Y location. It looks correct inside Inkscape,
but not inside Firefox.

This is not a bug in Inkscape.

This is a bug in InkScape!

The XML created when you conert framed text to text, all text lines are
given the same Y location. The Y location for each line should be
different.

I have reproduced your results, however the generated SVG looks correct
and both Opera and Batik can render it just fine. I'm inclined to believe
it's a Firefox bug.

Very interesting. Based on the code produced by InkScape, I wouldn't
expect it to look correct in any browser. I'll bring this up with the
Firefox developers too.

You sure this is a bug in inkscape? Firefox has only really started
adding SVG support and doesn't claim to have full coverage of even SVG
tiny.

it may not be our fault but it is certainly still our problem.

if you have a corresponding bug report against Firefox/mozilla please do
post the link here too

generally speaking if you are worried about any kind of text displaying
correctly across platforms (and more importantly printers) you will need to
convert to paths, there are other issues such as available fonts which
might mess things up too.

Colored boxes are displayed both in FireFox3 and in GiMP instead of flowed text. Although FAQ is very useful, I wonder when SVG1.2 specification will be finished to reach compatibility? In the meanwhile what do you thinks about automatic conversion of flowed text into regular on saving to plain SVG file?

@techtonik:
We can make it conforming without waiting for SVG 1.2. See Bulia's post describing how this can be done: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/167335/comments/15 (which implies converting to ordinary text when writing Plain SVG, as you suggest, since Plain SVG doesn't use the Inkscape namespace).
