Tool controller handles will repeatedly "self-click" if user performs a double click

Where: Tool Controls Toolbar inputs (up/down triangle icons)

The undesired behaviour arises if the user wishes to quickly click the up/down arrow icons to adjust the values (when the user double clicks the up/down icon).

System:
Linux mint 18.1 (Serena)
UBUNTU_CODENAME=xenial

Affected versions: 0.92.3 (unknown)
  - this version is from (inkscape_0.92.3+68~ubuntu16.04.1_amd64.deb from ppa:inkscape.dev/stable
  - the 0.92.2 version from the same source was also affected by this bug

The Snap-version: Inkscape 0.92.3 (3ce5693, 2018-03-11) is NOT affected by this bug.

Summary:
If user is clicking so fast on increase/decrease value controls in main controls toolbar, that it is indeed performing a double click, then the input will become unresponsive, and will continue to automatically increase/decrease the value as if the user would be continuing to click the icon at a very high speed.

This is a serious usability problem.

Detailed description:
The tool controls toolbar (below file menu) has several text input fields where the user can either type in text directly, right click to select from predefined values, or click the triangle up and triangle down icons to increase or decrease the value.

The only way to stop this behaviour, is by choosing another tool or clicking on the canvas.

As far as I have tested, this affects all tools's controls in the controls toolbar.

Other input fields with arrow up/arrow down icons do not exhibit this behaviour (for instance similar controls in the snap controls, or similar in the preferences.

Examples:
Using the calligraphy tool, I want to increase the mass a bit (a 3-5 increase would be good) and perform tree quick clicks on triangle up.

The Mass value quickly rises up to 100.
- First I get confused
- I try to click the down-triangle icon, but there is no response as the value is still 100.
- I then click the canvas
- Then I click in the middle of the Mass: input field ( should set the mass to 50)
- The mass is set to 50, BUT it still automatically increases quickly up to 100
- Then I have to switch tools on the toolbar.
- Then I can switch back to the calligraphy tool
- Then I can either right click the Mass control and select a predefined value, or I can type in directly ( I have to let my mouse go, put my hand on the keyboard, then take my mouse again
