Key shortcuts to transform patterns (move, scale, rotate)

The handles for moving, rotating and scaling pattern fills are limited in their usefulness, eg if the pattern is very small so the handles appear on top of each other, or the page is zoomed in on an object so the corner where the pattern is defined, and the handles appear, is not visible.
Some key shortcuts would be very useful to move, scale, or rotate an instance of a pattern. Eg:
Ctrl + drag mouse using Object or Direct Selection tool dragging inside object moves the pattern, not the object
Alt + drag mouse using Object or Direct Selection tool dragging inside object rotates the pattern
Ctrl + Alt drag using Object or Direct Selection tool resizes the pattern
