Export bitmap in any format rather than PNG

Bug Description

I'm surprised this hasn't been addressed yet, but PNG format has a major drawback as it uses a gamma setting that causes many programs to adjust colors in funny ways.
We should be able to export bitmaps in plain formats such as BMP or TIF.
Or am I missing something here? Thank you!

Gamma information in PNG files is optional (just as it is in TIFF files), and the PNG files produced by Inkscape have none at all. Have you really had problems with other programs adjusting the colours, or are you just assuming that you would?

Support for exporting to other bitmap formats would obviously be good. I thought there was already a request for this, but I can't find it at the moment (although there some discussion in bug 168446).

It's possible to save PNGs without gamma/color calibration information,
if that's what you really want to do. Perhaps it should be an option or
preference somewhere.

This could be indeed nice to be able to export to bitmap, would it be only to give choice to the user.

Changed in inkscape:
importance: Undecided → Wishlist
status: New → Confirmed

This looks like a duplicate of bug #171390: "Extended Raster export support please", so I'll mark it as such. Please feel free to revert this change if you feel that this is a separate bug.
