Cut Path with a grouped object does nothing

also can't even tell which OS I have: OS X 10.5.7 if it matters in the least.

Read the status line: it tells that Inkscape can only cut 2 paths at a time (not a path and a group) - I'd say not a bug, but a wishlist item maybe?

If you want to use the three lines as a part of the 'Cut' operation you need to 'Combine' them first, not 'Group'.

'Combine' works for me, but then some parts / segments of (in my tests) the first line at the top are lost, as described in bug #166302.

forgot to add: tested with Inkscape 0.46+devel r21953 on OS X 10.5.7 ;-)

aha, Combine does indeed work (with the aforementioned #166302 bug) if you
_do not_ group the paths first and then combine, and then cut (which means
you are trying to cut a group of one path instead of just a path.

I would say yes this is a wishlist with the caveat that confusion reigns
for the reason that behavior that you would naturally expect to work simply
doesn't. It may be a proposed new feature in the most technical sense, but
not in the behavior of a existing (and critical) tool.
