Bug Description
In the previous releases of Inkscape, the "Paste in Place" function seemed to always work as follows:
1) select an object (either a drawing object or a group), or a set of objects
2) CTRL-X to cut
3) CTRL-ALT-V to paste in place
---> the previous selected object(s) appear in the EXACT same position that they were cut from
NOW, the objects are pasted wherever the cursor is located; the same as regular PASTE.
I am using 0.47-pre2-1 on OSX
Not reproduced with Inkscape 0.47pre2 and 0.46+devel r22288 on OS X 10.5.8, XQuartz 2.4.0
This is most likely an issue with your X11 configuration, not within Inkscape: can you e.g. 'Alt+click' to click-through- and-select an object that's hidden behind another (as described in the basic tutorial)?
Solution: remap the 'Alt' key from 'mode_switch' to 'Alt_L' as described in "How to make Alt+click and Alt+drag work?": wiki.inkscape. org/wiki/ index.php/ FAQ#How_ to_make_ Alt.2Bclick_ and_Alt. 2Bdrag_ work_.3F>
