Copy & Paste produces SVG icon in Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Bug Description

The copy & paste function produces an SVG icon the size of the pasted element when working on my Mac. I've changed the preferences in X11 for the clipboard function. What I'd like to know is, does Copy & Paste work in Mac OS X (10.6.2) at all, for anyone? Or is this a problem that can be fixed on my end?

Could you please clarify:
1) what is a SVG icon? do you mean a bitmap copy (raster image), written to the disk and linked in place?
2) Did you follow the instructions to change the X11 pasteboard preferences detailed in the current version of the Inkscape FAQ <http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ#Copying_and_pasting_in_Inkscape_creates_pixellated_images_instead_of_copying_the_vector_objects> (see this screenshot of the X11 preferences window: <http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=3627#p17000>)? After this copy&paste still fails for you on Snow Leopard?
3) did you use the menu commands or command bar buttons for copy&paste? Please be aware that the keyboard shortcuts for copy&paste and others are different in X11 applications: instead of 'cmd+c' and 'cmd+v' you have to use 'ctrl+c' and 'ctrl+v' (unless you have changed it - there is a detailed how-to section in the FAQ too)

depending on your answers:
a) if it works and you can copy vector objects and paste them as vector objects not bitmap copies, then this the known issue with X11 used by Apple for OS X 10.5.8 and 10.6.x, and your report is a duplicate of bug #307005 in Inkscape: “copy command always does bitmap copy”: <https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/307005>

b) if copy&paste on Snow Leopard still doesn't work after changing the X11 preferences, could you please describe in a short list of 'steps to reproduce' when and how it fails? For clipboard issues beyond the basic 'paste as bitmap' issue there's bug #460197 “Can't copy objects in pre4, Snow Leopard”: <https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/460197> which at the moment is still undecided if it's essentially the same issue on Snow Leopard or if there's something else that breaks the clipboard handling of Inkscape (and maybe other X11 apps) under X11 on OS X 10.6.

1. The SVG icon was a little icon that looks like a typical computer icon - it's a white square with an orangish or yellowish bar floating in the top left corner. On the white square are the letters SVG, and on the yellowish bar, it also has the letters SVG. But there's no reproduced (pasted) element - just the icon.

2. No, I changed the clipboard preference, but didn't change the pasteboard preference. I just changed the pasteboard preference - going by the screenshot provided - and I did get the pasted image. (Thank you!)

a. Yes, that was it. Thank you.

Sorry for the trouble.

Thanks!

Thank you for the feedback! Linking this report as duplicate to bug #307005 . Please add a comment and revert the duplicate status if you don't agree or if the workaround to change the X11 preferences no longer helps to restore a working clipboard inside Inkscape.
