Bug Description

I looked through the reported bugs, but I didn't find anything similar, so here goes.

Whenever I use a pattern for a path (rectangle, circle, any kind of path really), I don't get any node handles to control the position and angle of the pattern (I do get the handles if I switch to gradient fill, though).

I fumbled around a bit earlier, but didn't do anything else other than the usual 'set fill', 'set stroke' etc. The handles appeared at one point, albeit very close to each other (if that's any help?). Now the handles won't appear on that path anymore either.

Using Inkscape 0.48.

Thanks for reporting; looks like this is a duplicate though of bug #686568, or at least it's closely related

@Catalin - the pattern handles of Inkscape stock patterns always appear in the upper left corner of the page. Also note that you have to use either the node tool or one of the shape tools to see the pattern handles of the selected object.

Can you unset the fill of the path (click on the '?' in the Fill tab of the Fill&Stroke dialog) or remove the fill (click on the 'x' in the Fill tab), and then assign a different pattern? Do the pattern handles now appear in the upper left corner of the page?

If above tips didn't help, could you attach the file with that path to the report you originally filed (bug #691197)?

Those are different handles, for gradient stops, they are initially aligned with the bounding box of the object:
