request: set CSS class in object properties?

Bug Description

I'd like to be able to set the "class" attribute on an object (maybe in the object properties dialog), for use in re-styling SVG files using a stylesheet.

Inkscape preserves <style> tags in the file and preserves class attributes on elements, and it even uses them correctly to calculate colours of the objects. All that is lacking is a way to edit the class attribute of an element.

Plus I suppose I'd like to be able to add external stylesheets in the document properties, in the same way as external scripts can be added now.

On second thoughts: never mind. The built-in XML editor is sufficiently good for this purpose that there's no point in adding more specialised UI stuff to do the same thing. Sorry for not investigating my options thoroughly enough before posting a feature request!

Note that Bug #419266 “class attribute not saved in plain svg” <https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/419266> is not yet fixed - the class attributes are only preserved as along as you save as Inkscape SVG.

Possibly also of interest:
Bug #167937 “CSS definitions being persisted in style attributes” has a small extension attached to "to clean style attributes from nodes that have a class attribute" (untested).
