Whitespace formatting the .svg changes text box boundary

Bug Description

Adding whitespace, for example to format (pretty print) the svg, changes the size of a text box even though the text element is unchanged.
The two attached files differ only in XML whitespace, yet the text box around the word test is altered.

Reproduced with Inkscape 0.46, 0.47 and current trunk (r10242) on OS X 10.5.8
Inkscape interprets whitespace/newlines between <text …> and <tspan> (and the corresponding closing tags) differently than other SVG renderers, e.g. Batik (Squiggle 1.7).

Seems related to:
Bug #167125 “[Ill] newlines between elements cause phantom xml nodes”
<https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/167125>

Changed in inkscape:
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Confirmed
