(re)snapping selected nodes to grid.

Bug Description

It's either a request for feature or for improving the documentation.

When in node edit mode, I'd like to select some nodes and force them to (re)snap to the nearest grid points without moving them individually with a mouse.

It appears that a similar bug report was filed 6~7 years ago (bug 170177) and was dismissed as invalid with justification that this feature is already implemented. Unfortunately the supporting information in this bug report is both vague and outdated (all the SF links are dead now).

You can access the reports and RFEs migrated from sf.net to launchpad.net by prefixing the sf bug number with 'sf', like this:
<https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/sf1492032>
(bug #170177 refers to Bug #171290 “Unified snap RFE”)
</off-topic>

Strange, "Unified snap RFE" refers back to bug sf907478 (bug 170177). It only mentions it was fixed in SVN 20060520 without giving any details.

I have a suspicion that "fixing" this bug meant making sure that one of the nodes in the selection is snapped to the grid when the selection is moved. That's presumably not what bug 170177 (and this bug) was about - I'd like _all_ the selected nodes to be snapped to the nearest grid points even if that means the shape of paths and arrangement of objects has to be modified.

There is an extension "PixelSnap" available, which does almost that, except that it snaps to pixels rather than grid.
