translator-credits remains "untranslated", so the percentage is < 100%

All the strings are translated, except this one. I was in charge of the review all them and the job is done, but it's not possible to get this package absolutely translated because of this bug.

It's an eternal bug? It really annoy when we get this package list to translate...
If it remains untranslated 'cause its value is generated automatically, couldn't just input a default value to it, only to mark as translated, and generate the "real" value when close the translations?

Generally, I tend to order the packages by number of missing translations, and it is obviously upsetting to reach N packages and see that all of them have a single translation missing, this one. Therefore, I would like to kindly request that you fix this problem as quickly as possible - it has been like this for months.

This bug was reported almost a year ago, and it still hasn't been fixed.

Why is it so hard to fix?

I've reported this several times in the past, I'd really like to see it solved. More often than not, I enter certain packages, thinking that a single string is untranslated, and then... I see this problem - not a good thing.

Please, you have to solve this.

Or open the code of launchpad and it will be fixed on two days.

Fixing this bug involves quite some work (unless we want to make Launchpad Translations very slow as a result).

Considering that it should not be hard to figure out that if stats say there's 1 or 2 untranslated messages, reason is this bug, the amount of work for this little gain never made it a high priority.

I'll try to fix it soon, but can't make any promises yet.

After enabling launchpad translations for our project, I was very surprised to see this 99% bug. Any ETA on when this will be fixed?

I'd rather manually handler the the translator-credits or even disable them completely than have all our translations show as 99%

What needs doing to fix this bug:
 ∙ Providing a pre-defined 'is_current' but not 'is_imported' translation for all translation credits messages when new POFile is created in the DB. It can be the string of the form 'translation credits placeholder; is not used'.
 ∙ When a new POTMsgSet is added by a template import which is one of translation credit messages, we should provide the same placeholder translation for all existing PO files.
 ∙ Populate all translation-credits messages for existing PO files (to fix bad data already in DB).

Re-raising priority for 2.2. We should fix this soon.

This is a really annoying bug. I am a new translator (one month on launchpad and a 889 Karma) and half of the projects listed in "Translations you can help complete" are already completed and shows on the list only because of this bug.

One proper way to fix this bug without causing any performance problems is:
 * Whenever a new PO file is created with *some* translations, create "current" TranslationMessage for each of the translation credits messages
 * Whenever a new POTMsgSet is added, if it's one of translation credits messages, create a "current" TranslationMessage for all existing POFiles containing at least some translations
 * Write a script to update all existing POFiles with the same translation (eg. "AUTOMATED TRANSLATION")

The reasoning for the above is the following:
 * "current" translation is not shown on any of these messages
 * POFile needs to have at least some translations to get anything to fill up the message, so it will be untranslated message if PO file is empty
 * No statistics calculation or UI code would need to change for this approach to work everywhere else

I'll make sure this is fixed asap, because it's causing even bigger problems with things like dashboard (bug 455185).

The initial Bug Description was that the special string "translator-credits" could not be manually translated.

It is intentional that they are not translatable. The content is generated on-the-fly upon display and export from the list of people that contributed to the translation plus whatever the upstream credits contain. There is no need to edit it in Launchpad.

The bug is about this preventing the translations from ever reaching 100% and we are working on fixing that.

Done through a sequence of bugs:
  ∘ bug 456498 — some refactoring
  ∘ bug 456562 — generic methods to find translator credits messages and to mark them as translated
  ∘ bug 128324 — keep translator credits messages translated for all new POFiles and POTMsgSets (perhaps more split-up?)
  ∘ bug 459132 — mark existing untranslated translator credits as translated

Uups, added BaShare as an affected project, but didn't know what the consequence of it would be. You can just ignore that ;)

All of the code has been fixed. There are some DB permissions missing on the cleanup script, but after the script runs (over the next few days), this bug will be fixed.

We've hit a problem with cleanup script: bug #479385. While we've only seen it in the script, it can bite us elsewhere as well.

Above bug has been fixed as well. Now we need to get it into production server and run it. My estimation is that script will take up to 7 days to run.

My original estimation was wrong. It'll probably take up to another 20 days to finish. :(

Fixes for this have been released: the cleanup script is still running though, so there might be older pofiles which still exhibit this problem, but they will be fixed in the following days.
