Bug Description

After a failure, you might have to restart your system. In this case the logs from /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log are overwritten. It would be nice if the last version was copied before a new log started i.e. /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log.1 or similar.

Since upstart can capture and log all stdout/stderr even from early boot, it would be nicer for /etc/init/lightdm.conf to ask lightdm to log to stdout/stderr. That way complete logs would be collected in /var/log/upstart/lightdm.log (and rotated). I don't see an option to run lightdm in foreground and/or log to stdout/stderr. Can that be added?
