Bug Description

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED

Right from the start on the Mint 17.1 64-bit live CD, the touchpad on a 2008 Macbook (white plastic, 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo) does not work.

Following a tip found at http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=180235 I managed to open a terminal and execute 'synclient FingerLow=1; synclient FingerHigh=10'. This "works" in that it enables the trackpad but it appears to be very sensitive and receive clicks sometimes when the machine is bumped.

WHAT I EXPECT TO HAPPEN

The trackpad should work out of the box and not be sensitive or act strangely.

This is still a problem in 17.2.

This is still a problem in 17.3. synclient does not work out of the box on a computer that has been around for quite some time.

There are some forum posts and threads on Synaptics touchpad settings issues. This problem (incorrect out-of-box defaults) exists on a number of machines, not just Macbooks.
