Bug Description

1) The version and edition of Linux Mint you are using (if you are not sure, open a terminal and run "mintwelcome").
Linux Mint 10

2) What you did for the problem to happen, and how to reproduce it.
Open Synaptic Package Manager

3) What happened.
Buttons looked unpolished and unprofessional.

4) What you expected to happen instead.
I expected them to match the overall nice theme of Linux Mint 10.

5) If the problem happened once, sometimes, or always.\
Always

Synaptic Package Manager looks fine with older themes, such as Lightning.

For the record I am talking about the buttons on the bottom left.

It's hard to know whether this is a bug on synaptic or on mint-x-theme.... It looks like Synaptic is defining its own style/widgets?? The checkboxes in the package selection frame aren't correct either.

Looks the same in my fresh install. I discovered the ugly buttons in Synaptic and Guake.

This does not only happen to applications run as root (like Synaptic) but also user applications, like Guake, mentioned above. It happens even on Mint 9, if you download the theme manually. Not sure if this is related, but the Mint-X and Mint-X-Metal theme also causes GCstar to freeze: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/710509

The "flat-buttons" and GCstar problem do not happen with any other theme I've tried, including the ones from Bisigi. This is why I think it's safe to suspect that there is something particular within the Mint-X themes that causes this.

This does not affect Synaptic in Ubuntu using the default theme, so I am marking the Ubuntu task as Invalid. Feel free to reopen if you still experience this issue on Ubuntu.
