Bug Description

The width of columns in Nautilus appears to be averaged across all columns such that all columns display as much as possible.
The consequence of this is that long names in the location-column will cause the name in the name-column to be truncated.
The problem with this is that files with long names cannot readily be identified, because the differentiating part of the name is truncated as with, for instance, suffixes denoting version numbers.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

Okay.

Then how do I phrase the comment that I was requested to move the bug
upstream?

I'm unsure the fact that your were "requested to move the bug" is useful, that's an upstream issue and you are reported it to them, you could have gone directly their way. In any case if you want to provide that information you can use "I originally reported that bug on launchpad https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1524610 and was asked to report it upstream as well", I don't think who triaged the bug and added the comment is an important detail for the upstream bug resolution...
