Bug Description

if "Receive Messages by Email=Never" for a partner or contact - no message is sent to this address

Nevertheless in the message the partner is mentioned as addressee, which is miss leading, as no message was sent.

importance: Undecided → Low

please could you increase the Importance
Users get a complete wrong picture of what OpenERP is doing
based on the info given user must assume that the mail was sent and might loose business because the partner/customer never got an answer.

importance: Low → Medium
Changed in ocb-addons:
importance: Undecided → Medium
assignee: nobody → OpenERP Community Backports Team (ocb)

The partner received a notification in its Inbox, this is why he is in the recipients. If you activate the portal, he bill be able to read its messages, reply to it, ... However receiving a notification on the Inbox and receiving it by email is dependent on the 'Receive Email' field.

This is the intended behavior: the partner has been notified but doe snot want to receive emails. OpenChatter deals with messages and notifications, not only emails.

Well if it is the intended behavior, it is rather user - unfriendly.

I assume that you are talking but "opt out" = 'Receive Email'

TO understand what happens the dummy user has to do some research and to find the (poorly named) "opt out" field

I doubt that it is easy to understand the meaning of last line of the message.

The user must be able to see immediately if a mail has been sent or not - imagine someone changed the "opt out" value after sending ....

Hello,

No, it is the "Receive Messages by Email' field, in the user's preferences or in the partner form view. opt-out is only used for marketing campaigns. I know that messages / notifications / emails is maybe not easy to understand, but adding information about sent emails in the chatter does not seem a solution to solve this issue. Actually you should not have to worry about emails; if the recipient is a partner he will receive it by email unless you changes the "Receive ... " field value. Classic and portal users can change this field at any time because it is in the Preferences form view.

Hello!
So my analysis was wrong,

Nevertheless looking at the mails there is a "from - to" information line

What I am trying to say is that only experts might understand that a the to-field has a very ambiguous meaning.

the customer gets emails, but the statement for status change <customer>.... "notified" is wrong, because he is not notified by email.
