Bug Description

In product view for costing method = average, change the cost price.
journal entry created should be either
DR Inventory
CR Price Difference (or the other way around)

In V7 the stock input/stock output accounts are being used instead of price difference.

Changing cost price without some inventory document is hardly best practice AFAIK.

Possibly, but the fact remains that the function exists and is creating incorrect accounting entries

Kevin is right, currently It takes the "Stock Input account", it should be create accounting entries for stock valuation vs price difference account.

I think it is a bug in first place to show the update price button for average cost products. The button action, 'Change Standard Price', should be used for standard cost only; the resulting account move created by 'product.do_change_standard_price()' will not affect average cost calculations in future transactions.

The main point is still valid; update price move should affect a dedicated price difference account, not stock input/output accounts.

I filed bug #1184880 regarding incorrect display of update price button for average cost.

Any news on this one which was set In Progress last year?

By the way, I believe the use of input/output are reversed in this algorithm.

Ultimately, the user should have control on the account used for registering the price difference, so these account should be proposed in the wizard.
