Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

English:
When I copy to clipboard a column or row of data from OO Calc and paste it in a column or row of a table in OO Writer the data aren't pasted properly each one in each cell, but they are pasted as an object in the last cell. This is a great problem because qhen i qant to put the data in Writer i have to copy/paste them one by one.

When I copy something from calc to writer in openoffice 2.3.1 at least it ends up embedding a spreadsheet object. Is that what it is doing for you? When you see it copy it all into one cell if you move the item it pasted down below the table area and double click on it does it show that it is a spreadsheet object? If it doesn't then what version of Ubuntu and OpenOffice are you running?

I think this 'bug' is actually the intended behavior, depending on what it actually does on your system. At least the results on my machine running Ubuntu Hardy seems to be intended behavior.

No, what i wanna do is cop and paste a serial of cells from calc to writer,
So i first create an empty table in writer, and i want to put in that table
data from calc. But when i try to copy a table of data from calc and paste
that data into the table i've creates in writer i've got a table as an
object pasted in the middle of the empty table. ¿How can i put the data from
calc to writer in a presentable table?
My ubuntu version is gutsy gibbon

Thanks

It does that by default... It embeds an entire spreadsheet object into
your writer document. I don't know if it has the ability to copy just
the data out of the cells and paste them into fake spreadsheet table
form of writer. Even if it could do that the data it copied over might
not display correctly due to cells in spreadsheets containing formulas,
etc, that as far as I know writer tables don't support.

If this is the intended behaviour, then the intended behaviour needs to be changed. The user needs to be able to copy a table of calculated or processed data from a spreadsheet to a word-processing document (e.g. in scientific writing). In Microsoft Word or WordPerfect, you can "Paste Special" and choose to paste into a table rather than as an embedded object; that should be possible in Writer as well. I request that this bug be re-opened and marked at least medium priority.

Ok, I see that in Office 2007 you can highlight the entire table and then paste special into it and it will fill in the data properly. I am reopening the bug and going to send it to upstream.

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.
