DRC doesn't detect overlapping components

Bug Description

I created a board that has overlapping components,
where multiple pins share the same location. There
are some very good reasons to do this sometimes, but
often it is
an error. No netlist was loaded.

DRC passed the board with flying colors, except for
some complaints about traces to close to square pins.

DRC behavior in this situation should be configurable
on a board by board basis. When you actually want
to do this, you don't want a hundred errors but
you also don't want it to silently overlook components
that have been accidently superimposed.

I have many boards with overlapping components. Some of them are cases where optional configurations share solder pads.

A CAD system is not a replacement for a brain. It's still the designer's responsibility to review the plots and make sure things are where they belong.

Moving to the feature request tracker. DRC has no way of knowing what you intended, so extra information from the user would be needed in the board to do what you want.
