Bug Description

Let’s say I have a text file opened in the text editor. It would be great to have a right-mouse click action on the respective icon of the text editor that pins the document to the dock, using the icon of the text editor.

Then, when right clicking on the text editor icon, it would show me entries for all my pinned files that are associated with the text editor.

I know that I can create custom desktop entries such as suggested here [1]. However, this bloats the number of icons in the dock and reduces the overview and simplicity design of Plank.

What is your opinion on this?

Sounds interesting, but this currently lacks a backend to retrieve the needed data.
E.g. services like Tracker or Zeitgeist could provide similar information.

I feel that the "open last opened tabs" feature found in scratch/midori/files overlaps with this, so I don't think feature is necessary.

@Rico

Thanks for taking up on this.

@Harvey

It's not about open last opened files but creating effective shortcuts to my favourite docuements and files.
