This seems to happen after non-ASCII unicode characters and occurs partially through typing the url

http://www.

and

http://www.

and

café nice http://example.

all cause the problem. The http part seems to be part of the problem as

does not cause a crash and the url is highlighted correctly.

This was fixed upstream https://github.com/koehlma/pygtkspellcheck/issues/16 and the problem goes away if you upgrade your local pygtkspellcheck.

Thanks for investigating this!

It seems that the pygtkspellcheck version that fixes this issue is version 4.0, released on 2012-10-01. Unfortunately, Ubuntu 14.04-16.10 have version 3.0 and only Ubuntu 17.04 will have version 4.0.5. This means we'll probably have to add a copy of pygtkspellcheck 4.0.5 to RedNotebook. Or does someone see a better solution?

I bundled pygtkspellcheck 4.0.5 now. It would be great if someone could grab a daily build (should be ready in about a day) and report whether spellchecking works as expected.
