I have also seen this when there are stopped apps. I had to do this to reproduce the issue, your steps didn't do it.

* Open terminal
* run top
* right edge to another app
* Lock phone
* Wait a little bit
* Unlock device and go back to terminal - note "[1]+ Stopped top"

* run top again
* tap q to exit top
* right edge to another app
* Back to terminal

Cursor drops to the bottom of the window and the prompt is gone until you press a key (such as enter)

Changed in ubuntu-terminal-app:
status: New → Confirmed
importance: Undecided → Medium

I think this may be partially fixed if bug 1378780 gets addresed. Seems the keyboard drops as soon as we swipe away from the application causing the terminal to reize.

Alan I've tried your steps but I can't reproduce this issue. I fixed the invisible line issue here (https://github.com/Swordfish90/qmltermwidget/commit/2d2c03180f95fbf8bff5edef0f716116a4baf79a). With your steps I can see a cursor issue though (which might be related to resizing as you wrote).

after you notice, "[1]+ Stopped top" the top program moved to background.
write "fg"(enter) and top is running.

however, it would be nice, if the top was automaticaly in forground
