Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)
Release: 8.10

Linux amranbuntu 2.6.27-3-generic #1 SMP Wed Sep 10 16:02:00 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

The monitor has a USB hub incorporated into the chassis as well as two card readers.

After 10-15mins of normal perfect-working-order use of the hub/card reader, it seems to freeze. any attached USB devices stop working (eg my mouse) and it wont recognise any cards inserted into the card reader.

The hub and card reader work fine on Ubuntu 8.04, albeit on a different machine.

Is this isolated to the USB hub inside the monitor or does it happen with USB ports on the computer also?
When the USB ports on the screen stop working, do the USB ports on the computer stop working too?
Do you have any high-current devices on the USB hub (such as bus-powered hard disks with no external PSU)?

Could you also provide some hardware details from the following commands:-

lsusb
lspci
sudo lshw

this is isolated to the USB hub inside the monitor; the usb ports on the computer are fine. eg i can move the mouse from the non-working monitor usb ports to the usb ports on the pc and the mouse starts working again.

i dont have any high current devices attached to the USB hub on the monitor, or the PC. the only thing attached to the hub on the monitor is the USB mouse.

attached is a text file containing the output from the commands specified above

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

This bug needs to be reopened for 8.04.

I have just done a fresh install of kubuntu 8.04 on amd64 with a new Dell 2408WFP and am seeing the exact same behavior as the original report. Id I do an lsusb I can see the memory card reader, it works fine, and then at some point it disappears from the output of lsusb, and I see the same messages from dmesg that have been already posted.

Please reopen this bug so that I may get a fix for 8.04, which is an LTS release. I do not plan to upgrade to a newer kubuntu.
