Bug Description
Hi.
The NetBeans Java IDE @netbeans.org distributes a Linux installer as a binary app. The IDE itself, and most other components, like the "NetBeans Profiler" have binary Linux installers. These installers throw Segmentation Faults when attempting to run on Ubuntu. I have seemingly confirmed that this is leading to corrupt IDE installations: note that the installer does continue to run and looks normal; you have to check the console output to discover the faults.
I have reported the issue to the NetBeans team, and they've said it would appear to be a problem with the dd command on Ubuntu. You can see this NetBeans issue for more information if you like: http://
That issue also includes console output with the segmentation faults. It was reported specifically against the NetBeans Profiler 5.0 Linux binary installer, "netbeans-

Sorry I do not have more helpful information. (I confirmed the fact that the install appears to wind up corrupt since one other installer is alternately available as a pure Java archive, and by installing that archive, no exceptions are raised during program execution where they were when running the installation from the binary installer. This particular component: the profiler: is not available in an archive.) This problem so happens to show up in almost any Sun distribution I have tried with the Linux binary installer, on this Ubuntu system.
This is the output of 'uname -a' here:
