Are you in full-screen mode or not?

Also, what kind of computer are you using? Knowing the video card would also help.

Yeah, according to these system specs, you are definitely not limited by hardware. Are other websites suffering the same problem? For example, try out videos at both hulu.com and youtube.com. This info might help to narrow down the problem.

hulu.com does not stream to canada to this time.
Youtube was not choppy today but did stop streaming half way through a video and also the fullscreen button consistently dos not function

Re the full screen mode.
Discovered that disabling the visual effects in appearance made the whole Youtube toolbar functional again so that was another problem.

Since last report all videos except VIMEO seem to be OK
Choopy means very rhythmic start stop aprox. 2 cycles per second
both video and audio pulsing in the chop.
full screen or not; makes no difference

Curious. I am almost willing to chaulk this one up to server/internet bandwidth issues, given that the problem is intermittent and such. However, I would then expect that the player should be properly buffering the content before playing.

Maybe this is strictly a flash problem...

How about this? Go to wikimedia and try viewing some of the videos on that site. Those videos are viewed through the new HTML5 embedded video specs and are handled natively by firefox, not by a separate plugin. If those videos are fine, then I vote that this is partly a flash problem.

Changed in firefox-3.5 (Ubuntu):
status: New → In Progress

I'm a bit slow I guess, I don't see any playable videos at all on the
wikimedia site

David, I apologize, here is a link to a bunch of videos. Try them out in different modes and see how well that works.

Wikimedia astronomy videos all played fine.
I just checked you tube and vimeo to see that there wasn't a self healing and youtube normal but vimeo plays very eratically chopy video and audio. irrigular now with about two breaks per second

Moving this to adobe-flashplugin as it appears to be limited to the plugin, and not the browser.

affects: firefox-3.5 (Ubuntu) → adobe-flashplugin (Ubuntu)

I can't stand this, ton's of vimeo videos are the only copies, really starting to hate vimeo.

I have this to too. Youtube-videos have unbearably low frame rates, but ok audio. With Vimeo both video and audio is choppy. Google videos seem fine. This is with flashplugin-installer 10.0.42.34ubuntu0.9.10.1 in Chromium (from daily PPA). I have an Asus Eee PC 901. Visual effects are enabled.

Par, could you try turning off visual effects? The video controler on Eee PCs share memory with the system memory.

In addition, I have personally noticed stuttering effects on my Eee PC 1000 due to Firefox occasionally having to access my hard drive. Have you noticed lots of disk activity when the video stutters?

I have the same issue. It occurs consistently on vimeo.com, but not on break.com or youtube.com.

Actually let me amend that. Based on a recommendation in a reddit thread on this same problem, I tried out chrome - no choppy video on vimeo. Switch back to firefox; choppiness. So this does not appear to be a flash plugin issue per se; at least, Firefox is somehow implicated(?)
