I can't confirm this issue. These are programs installed by Wine, but not in the Wine menu?

the same "problem" exists if you run alacarte as root.
the .desktop files probably are owned by root.
you might go to ".local/share/applications" an look for root:root files.(there are other places for .desktop files you might consider those too)
if you know what you are doing you might delete the right files, too.

These are menu items from universal combat (http://www.worthdownloading.com/download.php?gid=490&id=13639) installed by wine.

The output of "ls -Ral .local/share/applications/" is attached.
No file is owned by root.

Maybe the problem is within the .desktop files of the entries that cannot be deleted.

For example:
The entry named "Game Config Options" cannot be deleted.

So I search for the .desktop files of that entry.

The output is attached.

So as you can see the only file that differs is the one in the subdir wine/.

It misses the Hidden=true attribute.

Maybe that helps you find the problem.

My OS is Ubuntu 8.04.

I cannot delete some gnome menu entries which were created by wine.

I already opened a bug report for alacarte (the menu editor of gnome).
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alacarte/+bug/268279

But I thought it could also be a wine bug because other menu entries can be deleted.

(In my case deletion of the universal combat [URL: http://www.worthdownloading.com/download.php?gid=490&id=13639] menu entries fails.)

Either not Wine bug, or duplicate of bug 10277.

Closing invalid. If you can't remove entries with outside menu editor - that's the bug with that editor not Wine.

Wine devels also think this is a bug of the editor.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Thanks in advance.

Don't think this is invalid. It only seems to be wine entries which cannot be correctly removed.
More precisely it seems to be only icons for programs in /.wine. Icons for icons in other WINEPREFIXs work fine.

I suffered the same problem with Karmic Koala. I had tried unsuccessfully to install Pinnacle Studio 9 with Wine. I then wanted to clean up so finding that I couldn't clear the menu items with Alacarte I uninstalled the Wine software and deleted the .wine directory in /home/user/. I still couldn't delete those menus.
I finally managed to remove the un-deletable menu entries which were now in the "Other" menu group by going to /home/user/.local/share/applications and moving all the unwanted entries to a new folder (including the Wine folder) and then moved it to a different location, In my case the desktop. I only moved the files as a precaution, they can probably just be deleted.
I hope this is of use.

This is still a problem in lucid. Workaround is deleting or moving .desktop-files from /home/user/.local/share/applications/wine as described by Alan. For some reason alacarte does not delete these files.
