Input from an external mic can be barely noticeable, or not hearable at all

The microphone from an external device not working.
Input from an external mic can be barely noticeable, or not hearable at all.
The headset is connected by a jack port.
No option to adjust gain level for external Microphone(headset).
Checked with different working headset.
