Switching problem between headphone speaker and microphone to laptop built in speakers and front mic

I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Hi Mr. Dave,

I'm suffering a lot for a long time because of this problem. I always use
skype for communication officially and personally. some time I must need
headphone and sometime I must need front speaker for loud voice. For me
this is security issue. when I use headphone means, I don't want any other
to listen. So this is security issue for me in a sense. Anyways, this is a
big problem for me and not only me as I'm facing problem lot of people must
facing problem. I would request you help me with some solution. I'm really
in problem. I use skype for business purpose. this is hampering my day to
day smooth business communication activities.
Please help me.

Have the same problem too. Worked until Ubuntu 11.10, the problem appread with 12.04. My laptop: AMILO Pi 3540

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

I have the same issues with my Acer 5920G Notebook and Ubuntu 12.04 Precise running.
For me with Ubuntu 11.10 I have had no problems, but with an Update on Precise this bug has emerged.

I have this issue too, on 12.04. It is impossible to switch between Headphones and Built-in laptop speakers, they both work together. I did not have this issue on 10.04.

Panasonic Toughbook CF-y7.
Running Gnome fallback/classic, though it is the same problem on Unity.

In the sound settings I've tried switching between Analogue Stereo Duplex and the other options but that doesn't help.

If I connect the headphones so the sound comes through the headphones as the speakers built in, only to run the headphones have to start ubuntu with headphones connected, but in this case it disconnects the sound no longer goes out through speakers built into the headphones only.

I use Ubuntu 12.04 64bit in previous versions did not have this problem 9.10 and 10:04.

Same problem here. Did not, however tested what's happening when powering on with headphones attached.
Ubuntu 12.04 64bit. No Problem in 10.04 10.10.

Exactly the same problem here. Behavior is determined in boot time:
-if headphones plugged in at boot, sound only in headphones until next reboot.
-if headphones not plugged in at boot, sound in both speakers and headphones until next boot.

In 11.10 the behavior was correct, speakers would turn off as soon as headphones were plugged in.

I have the same problem with an alienware m14x running ubuntu 12.04. This is a pretty significant issue in my opinion given that it stops me using skype with a headset, etc.

 I found myself a solution: run
alsamixer
in the terminal
there you can mute (press m ) the headphone.
This is not a solution for a long time, but I think you cand handle the problem for a while.

ALSA: hda/realtek - Fix GPIO1 setup for Acer Aspire 4930 & co

Add GPIO1 setup explicitly for Acer Aspire 493x & co.
This could be set by alc_auto_init_amp(), but it's safer to set it

I solved problem by doing:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:upubuntu-com/kernel-i386
sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
or
sudo apt-get install linux

I upgraded Linux Kernel.

Is this bug due Linux Kernel? Maybe I am wrong, but I think Yes!

Same problem on ubuntu 12.10 amd64. Both in (ubuntu 12.04-provided) kernel 3.2.0 and kernel 3.5.0.

So it looks it is not the kernel after all...
