crash during update from fresh install

Bug Description

From a fresh install of 9.04, doing the first round of updates. An update crashed and now my monitor is unable to be detected so I am currently stuck at 800x600 instead of 1600x1280.

This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers.
