Bug Description

Binary package hint: atop

I installed atop and the both corresponding kernel patches.

I still can't run atop -d:

~$:atop -d
open account-file: Permission denied
warning: no process exit detection!
No kernel-patch installed (no disk-statistics)

Have you tried "sudo atop -d"?

I've not installed any kernel patch for it, but are you sure that it got correctly applied and you used the new kernel when booting?

Take a look here:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/cgi-bin//search_packages.pl?version=feisty&subword=1&exact=&arch=any&releases=all&case=insensitive&keywords=atop&searchon=names

~$: sudo atop -d
Password:
No kernel-patch installed (no disk-statistics)

How does the path get applied?
I just installed the *.deb for it via apt-get.

You need to rebuild/compile your kernel after having installed the patch package.

See /usr/share/doc/kernel-patch-atopcnt/README-kernelpatch.Debian and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=365114

Sorry, it does not seem to be that easy to get "-d" working.. you may want to create a new bug/wishlist item to include this patch/functionality by default.

We need some easy information how to get this patch running. Like, the package should say what to do, on install

Kernel should give option to execute the commands to rebuild&install kernel with just installed patch(es) enabled.

At very elast we should give information, like a link to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/Compile

perhaps a more recent version of atop and kernel patch would work?
