Can't login to 11.10 if autofs is used to mount network directories

Bug Description

After entering a password at the login screen I get a black screen and then dumped back to the login screen. If I comment out the mounts in /etc/auto.foo I can log in fine. I can then also uncomment out the mounts and have autofs mount them. It only fails when trying to login with autofs setup to mount something. The mounts are via NFS and this setup worked on 11.04 prior to upgrading. Can reproduce across multiple computers. Let me know what logs you want.

One more with this bug. That's really a problem.
Any solution at this time ?
In my case, I can connect to my NAS via ssh with a public/private key system and I can mount manually a directory from my NAS.
But with autofs it doesn't work (I do not change anything to my files auto.master and auto.sshfs and with this files, it worked fine with 11.04).

Alex, can you please do 'apport-collect 877040' on the affected system so we get more information about what software you have installed and what conffiles may have been modified?

Also if you can look through /var/log/syslog and include any relevant entries that will help debug this. Thanks!

affects: autofs (Ubuntu) → autofs5 (Ubuntu)

For what it is worth, I tested this with unity, gnome and XFCE and the bug exists with both unity and gnome. XFCE works properly (and is subsequently my new desktop env), so it seems this is due to some package that is shared by unity and gnome but not xfce.
